Webb, Daniel (1719 -1798)

Daniel Webb, of Maidstown Castle, County Limerick, was the eldest son of Daniel Webb, of Ballivar Onge, County Limerick, and Dorothea, daughter and heir of M. Leake, Esq., of Castle Leake, Tipperary. He was educated at New College, Oxford, where he matriculated 13 June 1735, aged sixteen, but took no degree. He married, firstly, Jane Lloyd and secondly, Elizabeth Creed, but had no children by either marriage. Latterly he lived mostly at Bath. He was the author of An inquiry into the beauties of painting (London, 1760); Remarks on the beauties of poetry (London, 1762); Observations on the correspondence between music and poetry (London, 1769); Literary amusements in verse and prose (London, 1787); and Some reasons for thinking the Greek language was borrowed from the Chinese (London, 1787).
