Preston, Charles James (1818 -1896)

Charles James Preston was the fourth son of Richard Preston, merchant of Liverpool, and his second wife, Isabella, daughter of Edward Rushton of Liverpool. He was the grandson of Richard Preston of Ellel and Hilham House in Cockerham. He was admitted a Fellow Commoner of Downing College, Cambridge 1841, took a B.A. in 1845 and an M.A. in 1849, and entered Lincoln’s Inn 26 May 1837. After being called to the bar 26 January 1849, he was on the Northern Circuit, was a stipendary magistrate for Birkenhead 1866-1893, and a Justice of the Peace for Cheshire. He died 9 May 1896. His grandfather, Edward Rushton, bought The Paradise of Dainty Devices at Roscoe's sale in 1816
