Menzies, William (1827 -1878)

The stamp is that of Menzies of Castle Menzies. The only William of that family that I have traced is the Reverend William Philip Menzies, who was a Minister of the Gospel at Rochester. It is unlikely that these are the arms of a clergyman, as his bookplate describes him as Esquire. The use of the arms with the letters W and M on the field of the arms is unauthorised, as it is not listed in the Lyon Register. It is a possibile that a William Menzies has used the arms, crest and motto of his clan chief without authority. Unfortunately there are too many William Menzies in the family records to enable a definite identification without further information.
