King-Noel, William, 1st Earl of Lovelace (1805 -1893)

William King was the eldest son of Peter King, 7th Baron King, and Hester, daughter of Hugh, 1st Earl Fortescue. He was educated at Eton and Trinity College, Cambridge. He inherited the Barony of King of Ockham at his father's death in 1833, and was created Viscount Ockham and Earl of Lovelace 30 June 1838. He was a Fellow of the Royal Society, Lord Lieutenant, and Custos Rotulorum. He married, firstly, 8 July 1835, Ada Augusta Byron, only daughter of Lord Byron the poet. She inherited the barony of Wentworth through her mother Anna Isabella Noel, and her ancestor, Andrew Noel, who lived during the reigns of Henry VIII, Edward VI and Mary I, married Elizabeth, daughter and heir of John Hopton of Hopton in Shropshire. She died 29 November 1852, and the Earl assumed by Royal Licence 29 September 1860 the additional name and arms of Noel. He married, secondly, 29 March 1865, Jane Crawford, widow of Edward Jenkins Esq. of the Bengal Civil Service, and daughter of John Jenkins.
