Hutton, Alfred (1839 -1910)

Alfred Hutton was the fifth son of Henry William Hutton and Marion, only child of John Fleming of Beverley. An Ensign in the 79th Highlanders 1860, he served with the 7th Hussars and the King's Dragoon Guards, and was a Captain in the 1st Dragoon Guards. A celebrated fencer, and writer on fencing, he was President of the Amateur Fencing Association, author of Cold steel, Fixed bayonets, and Old sword play, The swordsman and The sword and the centuries, a Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries, instructor in fencing to the Rifle Brigade, and a founder of the Central London Throat and Ear Hospital.
