Fitzgerald, John, 18th Earl of Kildare (1661 -1707)

John Fitzgerald was the only son of Wentworth, 17th Earl of Kildare, and Elizabeth, second daughter of John Holles ,2nd Earl of Clare. He succeeded to the Earldom 4 March 1664. He was made a D.C.L. at Oxford University 22 May 1683. As a Member of Parliament for Tregony in Cornwall 1694-1695, he was summoned to the Irish House of Lords in September 1695. He lived mostly in England, and married as his first wife Mary, eldest daughter of Henry O’Brien. She died of smallpox on 24 November 1684. He married secondly Elizabeth, daughter and coheir of Richard Jones, 1st Earl of Ranelagh on12 June 1684. He died 9 November 1707 without surviving issue and was succeeded by his cousin Robert Fitzgerald.
