Ferguson, George (1786 -1867)

George Ferguson, of Pitfour in Aberdeenshire, was the eldest son of George Ferguson, third son of James Ferguson, and Anne Murray, third daughter of Alexander, 4th Lord Ellibank. He entered the Navy as a 1st class volunteer on the Vestal, 28 guns, in July 1798, retired as a Post Captain on half pay in 1815, was promoted Rear Admiral of the Blue 4 May 1849, and Vice Admiral 21 January 1856. He was Member of Parliament for Banffshire from 1832 to 1837, Deputy Lieutenant for Banff and Aberdeen, and married firstly, Elizabeth Jane Holcombe, only daughter of John Woodhouse of Aramstone House and Yatton Court in Herefordshire, in 1812; and secondly, Elizabeth Jane Rowley, eldest daughter of Clotworthy, 1st Lord Langford, 7 April 1825.
