Chambers, Frances (1758 -1839)
Fanny Wilton was the only daughter of Joseph Wilton of Snaresbrook, a celebrated sculptor and one of the founder members of the Royal Academy. She married 8 March 1774, Robert Chambers, who was about to take up his appointment as Second Judge to the Supreme Court of Judicature in Bengal. They sailed in April 1774 on the Anson. In 1777 her husband received the honour of knighthood, and on the resignation of Elijah Impey, he became Chief Justice of Bengal in 1789. They returned to England in 1799, Sir Robert's health having been undermined by his time in India. He was offered a peerage, but being a poor man preferred to accept a pension. Sir Robert died near Paris 9 May 1803: Lady Chambers died at Brighton, 15 April 1839, aged 80. A volume of family prayers written by her was published in 1821.
