Campbell , John Frederick, 1st Earl Cawdor (1790 -1860)
John Frederick Campbell, of Stackpole Court, Pembrokeshire, was the elder son of John Campbell, 1st Baron Cawdor and Lady Caroline Howard, daughter of the 5th Earl of Carlisle. He was educated at Eton and Christ Church, Oxford, where he matriculated 27 January 1808, took his B.A. in 1812, and was created a D.C.L. 15 June 1841. He was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society 11 June 1812, and was Member of Parliament for Carmathen 1813 1821. In 1816 he married Elizabeth Thynne, daughter of Thomas Thynne, 2nd Marquess of Bath, succeeded his father 1 June 1821, and was created Earl Cawdor of Castlemartin 5 October 1827.
