Buchanan, John (1545 -1619)

Most probably the stamp of John Buchanan, 1st Laird of Gartincaber. He was born in Carbeth, Sterlingshire in 1545, the first son of the second marriage of Thomas Buchanan, 3rd Laird of Carbeth, and his wife Janet. He was also third in direct descent from Sir Walter Buchanan, 13th Laird of Buchanan. He acquired the lands of Gartincaber in Sterlingshire. He married Elizabeth Livingston, and with her had two sons, George, of Gartincaber, and William. John Buchanan died in 1619 at Blairlusk, Kilmarnock, Dunbartonshire.
