Brockett, John Trotter (1788 -1842)
John Trotter Brockett, born at Witton Gilbert in County Durham, was an attorney in Newcastle upon Tyne, an antiquary, a Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries and of the Society of Antiquaries of Newcastle upon Tyne. He was one of the founders of the Newcastle Typographical Society. He was author or editor of several works, including Selecta numismata aurea Imperatorum Romanorum ex Museo J. T. Brockett (Newcastle, 1822), 32 copies only printed, including 2 large paper; and Glossary of North country words (Newcastle, 1825; 2nd ed. Newcastle, 1829; 3rd ed. 2 vols. Newcastle, 1846). He also collected books, coins and medals. He sold his coins and medals in June 1823, in a sale that took ten days and realised £1,760. His library was sold by S. Sotheby 8 December 1823 in 3604 lots, and realised £4,260.9.0. His small collection of prints and portraits was sold with those of Dr Whitaker in January 1824. He afterwards collected a further library, which was sold after his death by S. L. Sotheby 16 June 1843.
